Project Description
Hello! My name is Nikki Lee and I am ecstatic to have joined the Hawai‘i Nature Center’s team as an environmental educator intern. I am currently a junior at Northeastern University in Boston and am majoring in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Green Economics. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, immersion in outdoor activities like tide pooling along rocky shores, paddleboarding amongst curious seals, and coastal hikes at sunset were influential for my interest in conservation.
In the past, I have had the privilege of engaging in a variety of dynamic roles that furthered my understanding of sustainability in different fields. As a warehouse associate and sales associate at a zero waste school supply company and thrift store respectively, I learned the importance of making sustainable living fun and accessible to consumers. For my role as a marketing and program coordinator intern at a small nonprofit in San Diego, community outreach and event support strengthened my ability to communicate the circular economy in actionable ways. And most recently as an earth educator for a nature school this past summer, I saw the value of building children’s environmental literacy through experiential learning and adaptable curriculums that created excitement about the natural world. I am thrilled to continue my journey of environmental stewardship and utilize these transferable experiences for my internship at the Hawai‘i Nature Center.
