July 2026 – 2025 was a year of belonging in nature.

By introducing children and families to nature today, we help cultivate the environmental stewards, leaders and change-makers of tomorrow. Sometimes the most important transformations begin with a single moment outdoors.

We invite you to explore Hawaiʻi Nature Center’s 2025 Annual Report, a reflection on a year of growth, impact and belonging in nature. This year marked an exciting milestone as HNC expanded its reach to Maui, launching environmental education programs that connected more children and families to the wonder of the natural world.

At HNC, we believe those moments matter. By connecting children and families to nature, we build community, create meaningful change and help shape a more sustainable future. At the heart of our mission is a simple truth: lasting connections begin with introductions. Before a child becomes a steward of the environment, there is often a first experience that sparks curiosity and wonder, whether through a school field trip, Nature Adventure Camp, a homeschool science lesson or time spent exploring Hawaiʻi’s diverse ecosystems.

Throughout 2025, keiki discovered native wildlife, explored forests and streams, and developed a deeper sense of belonging, curiosity and responsibility for the places around them. These experiences support healthier bodies, calmer minds, stronger social connections and a lifelong appreciation for nature.

None of this happens alone. Every opportunity for a child to connect with nature is made possible by a community that believes in the importance of environmental education. Parents, teachers, volunteers, donors, community partners and dedicated staff all play a role in creating experiences that inspire the next generation.
