Our week-long Nature Adventure Camp for keiki, ages 6 to 11, are held during school breaks and one of the best things for kids to do on O‘ahu as a science-based, environmental exploration. Kids can go tech-free and high touch in nature in this five-day program (unless there’s a holiday) held Monday through Friday from 8 am to 3 pm. The program is led by expert environmental educators. On O‘ahu, Title One school students and other families financially in need can apply for full or partial scholarships, which are limited and not guaranteed. Click here to apply. Summer 2024: Hawaiian Habitats

Our main theme this summer, Hawaiian Habitats, will take us on an island-wide exploration of four different ecosystems: forests, wetlands, coastlines, and streams. Each week, we will feature a place representing one of these four ecosystems. We will learn about that specific place and the science and culture behind it, then visit it on our field trip so we can experience everything we’ve learned. Locations will rotate throughout the summer but will likely include: Mānoa Cliff Trail, Judd Trail, Hāmakua Marsh, Hūnānāniho, Moanalua Valley Trail, Maunalua Bay, and more.
* We will not be swimming during any part of these weeks … but we will get wet and muddy!*

Freshwater

Water is life. Freshwater is key to both humans and animals, especially here in Hawaiʻi. We will learn all about the water cycle, where our drinking water comes from, and the importance of freshwater in Hawaiian culture. Join us for hands-on exploration of freshwater streams, water-themed games, and watercolor painting!

Coastlines

Hawaiʻi’s coastlines are known for beautiful coral reefs, unique native and migratory life, and many cultural resources. Explore all this and more as we learn about coastlines and the issues that threaten them as well as what we can do to be coastal and ocean stewards! We will learn how to be coral scientists, participate in beach cleanups, and get creative with what we find.

Forests

Explore Oʻahu’s forests with us, starting right here in Makiki Valley! We will learn about all the amazing things forests do for the world and the threats forests are facing today while focusing on how we can all be part of protecting these ecosystems. Join us as we hike and play team-focused games exploring native and introduced forests, create art inspired by the trees, and make friends with the forest life!

Wetlands

What’s a wetland? Join us to learn the answer and become a wetland expert as we learn all about wetlands! We will explore everything from native and migratory wetland birds to cultural connections with wetland ecosystems. Get ready to get your feet wet as we encounter wetland wildlife, make art, and work together to solve puzzles! (Getting wet is always optional!)

Day Camp Hours

Gear Up & Get Ready

Eat a hearty breakfast.
Wear clothes and closed-toe (hiking or athletic) shoes that can get wet and dirty.
Put on mosquito repellent and sunscreen at home.
Leave anything expensive, valuable, or fragile at home.
