October 2024 – Hawai‘i Nature Center hosted a “Night in Nature” event for Altres families on August 9, which offered a summer evening filled with exploration, education, and outdoor enjoyment. Participants embarked on a guided family hike through the Makiki rainforest, discovering the enchanting aspects of nature at night. As they ventured through the forest, families experienced the vibrant sounds and sights of nocturnal life, learning about the native plants and animals that thrive in darkness. Attendees were encouraged to engage their senses, listening to the rainforest’s sounds, feeling the cool evening breeze, and observing the subtle movements of wildlife in their natural environment.
Altres, a prominent staffing and human resources organization for over 50 years, has supported the center through volunteer efforts and donations, championing its mission to promote environmental awareness.
For over four decades, Hawai‘i Nature Center has been a leader in environmental education, providing hands-on learning programs that connect young learners with nature. These initiatives inspire curiosity, encourage questions, and foster a sense of environmental stewardship. The “Night in Nature” event is one of many educational activities designed to help families create lasting memories outdoors.
