November 2026 – For 45 years, Hawai‘i Nature Center has connected the keiki of Hawai‘i with nature through hands-on environmental education. Behind every field trip, camp and outdoor discovery is a community of supporters who help make these experiences possible.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Hawai‘i Nature Center exists to advance its mission, not to generate profits for owners or shareholders. Our goal is to create meaningful opportunities for keiki to learn, explore and build lasting connections with the natural world. Philanthropy plays an essential role in making that work possible.
How Fundraising Makes a Difference
Approximately 60% of Hawai‘i Nature Center’s revenue comes from program fees, while the remaining 40% comes from philanthropic support. Generous contributions from individuals, businesses, foundations and grantmakers, along with fundraising events, help bridge the gap between program revenue and the true cost of delivering our environmental education programs.
This support helps us break down financial barriers to nature-based learning. Philanthropy allows Hawai‘i Nature Center to offer subsidized program rates to Title I and underserved schools and provide scholarships for Nature Adventure Camp, helping more keiki experience the outdoors regardless of their family’s financial circumstances.
For some keiki, an Hawai‘i Nature Center field trip or camp may be their first opportunity to explore a forest, investigate a stream ecosystem or discover Hawai‘i’s unique plants and animals alongside an environmental educator. These experiences bring science to life while nurturing curiosity, building confidence and inspiring a lasting relationship with nature.
