August 2021 – HNC has conducted NAC and Outdoor EDventure Days hosting over 1,300 children in a safe and enriching outdoor environment. HNC board and staff continue to work hard to create an outdoor experience that, first and foremost, provides the highest level of safety while not compromising the integrity of our program to ensure an enriching, engaging and educational option for families.
Keeping children, their families, and our staff safe are our highest priority. All of our full-time staff are fully vaccinated. Modifications to our program include smaller group size to accommodate social distancing by reducing campers to 44 from the maximum of 60 each week. We are creating stable groups which means that the same kids are in the same groups each day. We’ve added six feet of social distancing in our seating arrangements. We are following the Hawaii Department of Health school bus protocols. Masks must be worn outside of snack and lunch times and there is no sharing of food or drinks with other campers. Daily temperature checks are conducted for the children and all staff. There is more frequent and easier-to-monitor hand washing due to the increase in utility sinks for the kids to use. We provide hand sanitizer during hikes and other outdoor activities. Frequent disinfecting of surfaces and high traffic areas are performed at a minimum of twice daily. Since our programs are outdoors, we have lots of room to spread out and enjoy the fresh air while exploring nature.
In addition to safety protocols being implemented, we need your help in making your child’s time a success at HNC. If possible, please participate in a staggered curbside pickup/drop off to reduce the co-mingling of parent/guardian, campers and staff. Staff will meet you at the designated drop-off/pick-up area to perform temperature checks. Campers must comply with the latest State of Hawaii or City and County of Honolulu COVID-19 travel restrictions prior to the start of camp or they are not permitted. We have the right to refuse or dismiss a camper who is in violation of this requirement.
