Environmental Educator (part-time) – Maui

Seeking enthusiastic individuals with a passion for working with children and a strong interest in environmental science to serve as Environmental Educators.  Position plays a vital role in delivering engaging outdoor environmental science lessons to Maui students at various field locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement high-quality programs that align with Hawai‘i Nature Center’s mission to connect children and families with nature, fostering future stewards of Hawai‘i.
  • Leads immersive nature experiences, including on-site and off-site excursions, hikes and stream explorations.

Fund Development Coordinator (full-time) – O‘ahu

Development Coordinator is a key, full-time, permanent position for the continued impact of Hawai‘i Nature Center. Coordinator assists in the annual fundraiser, donor development, grant solicitation, membership growth, and outreach. Serves as the lead in planning and implementation of all fundraising programs that includes identification, cultivation, solicitation, acknowledgement, and stewardship of individual donors, annual fundraising and membership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and actively manage a portfolio of 20 major gift prospects, including those identified by the Executive Director, Development Committee and Board of Directors.
  • In conjunction with the Executive Director and/or Development Committee/Green Gala Committee, assist in the development and implementation of the annual Green Gala event, including sponsorships, solicitation of in-kind donations, and auction items.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Annual Fund including working on direct response letters, e-mail appeals, and social media campaigns.
  • Research grant funding opportunities.
  • Expand HNC’s Membership program.
  • Research and partner with other non-profit organizations to help grow scholarship participation opportunities and overall awareness of HNC.

Curriculum Coordinator – O‘ahu

The Curriculum Coordinator works closely with the Education Program Manager and the Education team with support from the Executive Director. The main responsibility of the Curriculum Coordinator is to ensure the curriculum taught at all Hawai‘i Nature Center programs is in alignment with state and national standards, reflects the mission of HNC and the goals of the programming. The Curriculum Coordinator (CC) also supports the Education Program Manager in ensuring curriculum is taught to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct a yearly review of the state and national public and private school science standards and ensure school program curriculum is consistently aligned and updated as needed.
  • Stay current on emerging environmental education pedagogy and best practices.
  • Ensures all teaching resources, including Teacher Resource Guides, educator notes and lesson plans match updates made to school programs.
  • Coordinates the development of both new and recurring curriculum for homeschool and NAC programs.
  • Teaches in the field 2-3 days per week or as needs change in the Education Department with school programs, Nature Adventure Camp and the Homeschool program.
