Project Description
Aloha! My name is Ashlee Wells, and I was born and raised in San Diego, California. Growing up with the ocean and mountains as my playground instilled in me a lifelong love and appreciation for the natural world. This passion for the outdoors inspired me to pursue a career in conservation. I earned my degree in Environmental Studies, complemented by hands-on, community-based internships with both nonprofit organizations and government agencies.
During an exchange year and internship at UH Mānoa, I was deeply inspired by how environmental stewardship in Hawai‘i is rooted in culture, connection to place, and community. In 2024, I moved to Maui, where I’ve been working as a field crew member with the Maui Invasive Species Committee and the DLNR’s Natural Area Reserve System. While I love being out in the field protecting our native ecosystems, I’m equally passionate about educating the next generation and fostering a deeper connection to the environment. I hope to inspire others to cultivate a sense of place, community, and kuleana in caring for our ʻāina.
