Project Description

August 2026 – Lace up your shoes and join Hawaiʻi Nature Center and Hawaiian Ultra Running Team (HURT) for the second annual Rainforest Ramble on Saturday, September 26, 2026. This one-of-a-kind family event brings together outdoor adventure, environmental education and community spirit on the scenic Makiki Trail System near Hawaiʻi Nature Center.

Designed for keiki ages 6–14, the Rainforest Ramble invites families to run or walk together through the forest while enjoying the beauty of one of Oʻahu’s most treasured natural areas. This event encourages children and families to get outside, stay active and connect with nature in a fun and meaningful way.

Check-in begins at 8 a.m., with the event starting at 9 a.m.

The fun doesn’t stop at the finish line. After completing the course, families can enjoy interactive nature discovery stations, games, desserts and prize giveaways.

Led by Hawaiʻi Nature Center educators and volunteers, these hands-on experiences bring the wonders of Hawaiʻi’s ecosystems up close. Participants can learn to identify native and invasive species, explore the fascinating aquatic life found in local streams and take a closer look at insects and other small creatures that inhabit the forest floor. Through guided observation and exploration, keiki and their families will gain a deeper appreciation for the plants, animals and habitats that make Hawaiʻi unique.

Registration is $25 for the first child and $15 for each additional sibling, with up to five participants from the same family. All registration fees will be donated directly to Hawaiʻi Nature Center to support environmental education programs that serve thousands of local keiki each year.

“Rainforest Ramble is a great opportunity to bring our community together around a shared appreciation for nature,” said Todd Cullison, executive director of Hawaiʻi Nature Center. “We’re excited to partner with HURT once again to create an experience that encourages families to explore the outdoors, learn something new and support environmental education for Hawaiʻi’s children.”

Every registration helps support Hawaiʻi Nature Center’s mission to foster understanding, appreciation and stewardship of Hawaiʻi’s natural environment. Proceeds from the event directly fund nature education programs that benefit local keiki and communities across Hawaiʻi.

Space is limited, and this popular event is expected to fill quickly. Register early and join us for a memorable day of learning, adventure, and giving back.
